Regrets of a Programmer

Now when I am all old and about to retire
I think why didn’t I leave work when I got tired?
When I look back I have lots of regrets
I spent my life in gets and sets.
I could have basked in sun and played with hoops
Instead of figuring out for and while loops.

I wasn’t around much when my kids grew
I regret, why I kept figuring catch and throw.
Wish I could go back in time using GOTO
Take my kids to a park when they were two.
Spend some time with my friends, go to a club
Without worrying where to use push and pop.

Why didn’t I write a program to go back in time?
Live like I wanted to in my prime.
Have fun, be merry and enjoy with family
And not have unnecessary nightly meetings daily.
Not worry about promotions or year-end ratings
Remember birthdays not the config settings.
I am all old and about to retire with regrets
Why did I spend my life in font size and border breadths?
I could have gone on tours and trips
Instead of writing if-else and iifs.
I have regrets I lived like a programmer
Ignoring my role of husband and father
Learn from my mistakes and not repeat these
There will always be next Year-Ends and PEs.
