A step ahead of Gandhi

Dear friends
Today i am posting an article likewise which i have never done before.
I have been either always asking others for help. Whether be it in finding out a solution for a problem or asking for a software or i have been thanking or encouraging others.
But today i want to bring to light "a movement"

It so happened that in my college hostel, like any other hostel, the caterer is decided by the authority and the students have to avail it only.
No matter we eat the food provided by it or not..we have to pay. There is also a "mess committee" which looks after the menu and the quality of food being provided.
The committee also includes a few students.

Everything was fine till last year. But suddenly things began to change with the caterer being getting more and more hold in the college management group.
They began to give whatever they liked to provide. Also they discontinued many items which they thought was costlier. The quality of food degraded.

The reason they gave was that everything has become costlier and they demanded hike in mess fees like the previous year, to which our mess committee students and the general student group disagreed.
Even the management people took side of caterer when the students complained.

The RESULT: The students in mess committee students resigned and...

AND then a movement was started likewise we had never heard before....it was a simple hartal of students...we wont eat in mess...though we would keep doing other things as same..(like classes n tests)
and you wont believe...in ONE day the caterer was shown the door.

Tt was a peaceful movement like that of Gandhiji's but....the main characteristic of it was
THERE WAS NO LEADER IN THIS MOVEMENT.

All the students participated in it. Even when the authority asked about who is the leader so that the matter could be solved by talks, it was just told that all are leaders..or better there was no leader.

So friends...have you ever witnessed a LEADERLESS MOVEMENT before?

The post was written by me on the date October 2, 2007, but I am posting it here today :)

  1. This post by you is really interesting and inspiring. First of all, I would like to congratulate u and all the people who have been part of this MoveMent. For ur question at the end .... I would say NO. I never have seen any such .... might have heard of them but nothing did make me interested.

Most of my friends who lived in hostels have experienced this but they haven't raised their voice over them or even tried for a movement like this. I was lucky enough that I wasn't part of that agony. But it has made me feel the pain when any of my friends express such concerns.

Keep this good working going buddy ..... :)

A new follower to your blog ..... :)
